It helps me get pumped up and start the work day on an inspiring foot. It takes thirty minutes (and iced coffee) and it keeps me focused. Style Me Pretty

It’s not every day you get to see your work on a blog you’ve been reading for years. Today is that day! I was already so happy to be a part of Matt & Danica’s wedding day decor and this is the icing on the cake! Danica contacted me a few weeks before her wedding with a special project. She had found a beautiful wood hand stitched guestbook on Etsy by Michelle Skiba but the pages came blank. So she asked me to do some calligraphy inside introducing the event and requesting their guests sign the guestbook and leave advice for their future as husband and wife. It turned out beautifully. Congratulations again Matt & Danica. Thank you for letting me share in your wedding day!

Write. Watercolor. Repeat.

I’ve been a fan of watercolors since I can remember. I love the way a bold color can look soft or tough depending on the method you use. The variety and contrast you can create is so much fun to play with. And while I’ve been a fan, I can’t say I’ve understood exactly how it’s done. I took a class last year with the very talented calligrapher Rosemary Buczek on monochromatic painting. It was such an eye opener. However, since then I’ve only played around once or twice with watercolors (ps. this set is awesome!). So this weekend I decided to get messy with paint and see what happened. I’m pretty pleased with how things came together. If you saw my previous post with the Dr Seuss calligraphy watercolor print you can now purchase that piece in my new Etsy Store! And below you’ll find a piece from this weekend. I’m working a three canvas project for a close friend using this quote and other “sea” themed quotes (Have any suggestions for other quotes about the sea? Leave me a comment below!). I’ve become quite fond of it. Enjoy!

Tiny Matters.

I’m trying to get in the habit of creating calligraphy work to show here every week. Week two, so far so good! All this free “non-project” practicing has really made my personal calligraphic ‘style’ clear to me. It’s been a journey to find that personal lettering flow and I like it more every day. Getting back to my desk

After a whirlwind holiday season I was able to finally sit at my desk last night. It felt a little foreign at first but just like any old friend you haven’t seen in a while we were quickly on the same page (no pun intended, ha). So I lettered all the thoughts and words that had been on my mind for the past few weeks. One of my favorite things about being a calligrapher is being able to make messy emotions look beautiful on paper. Home, family, friends, travel, crushes and a new year. I think I almost used up a whole notebook. Below is one of my favorites of the night.

Gifting Esque Script Calligraphy Style

One of my favorite things about the holidays is to wrap gifts. This year I found this great woodsy wrapping paper at IKEA and I couldn’t pass it up!! Kraft paper tags with black calligraphy tied to the packages sealed with my favorite Knot & Bow metallic twine and silver washi tape was the final result. I love how they turned out. I also can’t wait to share with everyone what was in this boxes. Hint, I’ll be adding it to my calligraphic services.

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by so far. I’m in a year long calligraphy workshop with Reggie Ezell and it blows my mind to think we only have 2 more sessions! Anyways, I’m working on a project right now that is “month-esque” so I’ve been doodling accordingly. I hope to share more soon!
